Welcome weekend is over - the students are all back on campus. The freshmen are charging up their new laptops, getting to know their roommates, and anticipating the first day of classes. Their backpacks are ready with textbooks, notebooks, folders, pens, pencils and calculators. They've got their outifts all picked out so that they will look just right. A load of new experiences await them, some good, some bad, but all necessary to make them into the people they will eventually be. The traditional students won't appreciate it for what it is - a chance to learn the skills they will need to give them a bright future. The non-traditional students will, because they know what else is out there.
I am not taking classes this semester. And I am so happy about that, I can't even express it. I will get up tomorrow morning and go to work, and I will be very grateful not to have to pack up my laptop to start a couple of new classes. This break is going to be fantastic. Let those students go to classes and do homework and struggle with group assignments and study for quizzes and tests. I'm going to relax.
Less noise, more me
