What an amazingly unreal Monday I have had! First, up early this morning and at work 40 minutes early. On a Monday. What's wrong with that picture? Then we were super busy all day at work. Final exams are this week until Wednesday, and the students who aren't returning next semester are coming in to return their laptops and cell phones, and we had just non-stop traffic into our office all day. I couldn't wait for the door to close at 4:30 (although even then I ended up waiting on a couple more people who snuck in and actually had customers right up until I left at 5:00).
Then tonight my friend Jamie took me to see Cyndi Lauper in concert at the Turning Stone Casino. He asked me if I wanted to go with him a couple of months ago, and I said sure! Especially since he was treating for the ticket, and who am I to turn down a free show? I haven't really followed her career much lately, but I was a fan in the 80s - the She's So Unusual tape is in the glovebox of my car at this very second, as a matter of fact. I wouldn't have gone out of my way to see her, but I figured it would be fun. And it was a blast! She was out in the audience, climbing on tables, talking to the people in the crowd - and we were sitting up so close that I was only about four feet from her most of the time. Very cool.
I don't know how to describe this show to make you appreciate how cool it was. It was in a pretty small venue, and since our seats were so close, it actually felt like she was singing to about 10 or 20 of us. She told stories, she rocked us out, it was incredible. And she did a few of her 80s songs, so I was even able to sing along from time to time! (Or Time after Time, ha!) I left with True Colors in my head. In fact, it's still there. Sing along with me, won't you?
And I see your true colors shining through
I see your true colors
That's why I love you
So don't be afraid
To let them show
Your true colors,
Your true colors
Are beautiful
Like a rainbow...
That was great! We make a good team. And now, it is 11:02 and I have to be up in seven hours to get ready for work, and it's probably going to take me an hour to wind down. But I wouldn't have traded it for anything. Thanks James!
